Purpose
The Literacy Council of Carroll County is a non-governmental, non-profit, primarily volunteer organization that provides one-on-one tutoring to clients in need of reading, writing, and mathematical skills improvement. Our services are offered free of charge to our students. Students do not pay for tutoring or materials. These skills enable our clients to become employable and promotable in our community. We also provide training in other essential life skills such as earning a driver’s license and obtaining a GED. The Council provides the same services to non-English speaking (ESOL) residents to assist them in obtaining citizenship. We also offer English Conversation Classes for those individuals who want to learn to speak about and understand issues that they are not familiar with in their current situations. Our new Veterans Program provides employment training and remedial classroom instruction. This new program is also offered at no charge to the student.
