- Purpose
- To offer voluntary recycling opportunities for all Carroll County residents and businesses.
- Service
- Carroll County requires licensed waste haulers to offer curbside recycling pickup to all county residents and businesses. County residents and businesses may self-haul their own waste (fee) and recyclables (no charge) to the Northern Landfill, located on Route 1400 Baltimore Boulevard Westminster. Operating hours are Mon-Fri 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, and Sat 7 am to 3 pm. The recycling center drop off, located at the Northern Landfill, is staffed Mon-Fri 9 am to 3 pm and Sat 8 am to 2:30 pm. Aluminum can reimbursements (when available) are available during these hours. Acceptable recyclables: all food and beverage glass containers (all colors), any plastic narrow neck bottles with a number 1 through 7 on the bottom, wide mouth containers all numbers except #6 of any type, tin and aluminum food and beverage containers. Acceptable paper: junk mail, newspapers with inserts, magazines, telephone directories, cardboard, fax paper, paperback books, and nonmetallic wrapping paper. Discover Books has a book collection bin and we also partner with Habitat for Humanity-ReStore, Hann Road for Acceptable textiles: general clothing, hats, belts, handbags, paired shoes/socks,. Materials must be dry, clean, free of odor and placed in a clear plastic bag. The Recycling Center also accepts automobile batteries and electronics (no monitors or televisions), rigid plastics, white goods, and scrap metal. Hoods Mill Landfill, 7901 Kabik Court, Woodbine, is currently closed. WeCare Denali has established a residential yard waste drop-off at their operation on Kabik Court. Carroll County residents with proper identification will be permitted to deliver yard waste, from their own property, free of charge on Saturdays from 7 am to 11:45 AM. The following items are NOT accepted: Treated and untreated, stained, painted, or creosoted lumber and railroad ties; invasive plant species such as bamboo, Japanese Stilt Grass, poison ivy or oak; rocks, stones, blocks and pavers, and other landscape materials; additional items as identified by WeCare Denali at their discretion. WeCare Denali retains the right to reject any loads of material for any reason. WeCare Denali processes yard waste into mulch, compost, and other products, helping the county conserve valuable landfill space while recycling.
