Purpose
To offer voluntary recycling opportunities for all Carroll County residents and businesses.
Service
Carroll County requires all licensed waste collection servicers to offer curbside single-stream recycling pickup to all county residents and businesses. All municipalities provide recycling service to addresses within their respective incorporated limits. For those outside of am incorporated municipality, residents must contract directly with a waste collection service. Information about trash and recycling service is available at https://www.carrollcountymd.gov/government/directory/public-works/office-of-recycling/recycling-and-trash-service/. For questions and concerns about curbside service, including how to get a bin, residents must contact their contracted servicer. County residents and businesses may choose to haul their trash (fee) and recyclables (free) to the Northern Landfill, located at 1400 Baltimore Blvd., Westminster, 21157. Operating hours are Mon-Fri 7:00 am to 4:30 pm, and Sat 7 am to 3 pm. Acceptable single stream recyclables: Glass – empty food and beverage containers of all colors, throw away lids. Metal – empty aluminum and steel food and beverage containers. Mixed paper – clean and dry items such as: paper, envelopes, newspaper, catalogs, magazines, mail, phone books, paper bags, paperboard (food and snack boxes, shoe boxes), clean cardboard, non-metallic greeting cards, wrapping paper, and empty paper to-go cups. Please, no shredded paper or soiled cardboard. Plastic – empty bottles, tubs, jars, jugs, and #5 to-go cold cups, replace plastic caps, throw away lids and straws from to-go cups. Never put plastic bags of any kind in the recycling – return to a retail drop-off location. Additional recycling opportunities at the Recycling Center at the Northern Landfill include clothing, vehicle batteries, antifreeze, motor oil, hydraulic oil, diesel, kerosene, transmission fluid, cooking oil, vinyl siding, books, electronics, rigid plastics, usable building materials, scrap metal, white goods, and residential yard waste. For information about what is acceptable in each of these categories please visit https://www.carrollcountymd.gov/government/directory/public-works/office-of-recycling/recycling-center-at-the-northern-landfill/.
