- Purpose
- To protect citizens of Carroll County by providing a secure holding facility for persons legally confined.
- Service
- Provides secure detention for adult males and females awaiting trial or pending sentencing, or sentenced for 18 months or less. In addition to the custody programs such as food service, medical, mental health, and recreation, the detention center provides the following programs and services. VISITATION: Visiting hours during the day for the general population are from 1 to 3:30 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Evening hours are from 6 to 8:30 pm on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Visiting hours for the Work Release/Trustee Unit is from 9 to 11 am on Sunday. EDUCATION PROGRAM: General Education Degree (GED) classes and Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes provide functional reading and employment readiness skills. Basic computer training is provided through a grant awarded to the Carroll County Public Library. SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT: Both individual and group therapy programs are provided by the Carroll County Health Department. Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are weekly. RELIGIOUS SERVICES: A chaplain, supplied by the Good New Jails and Prison Ministries, coordinates religious services and programs for all faiths. Catholic and Protestant services are each Sunday, and Bible Study Groups meet on Monday. LIBRARY SERVICES: Library services are provided by the Carroll County Public Library. Inmates visit weekly on a scheduled basis. WORK RELEASE: Inmates can maintain or obtain employment in the community. TRUSTEE PROGRAMS: In addition to general housekeeping duties, inmates are assigned to the county's maintenance facility, parks and recreation, landfills, Carroll County Farm Museum, and Carroll County Airport. When requested, inmate trustee labor is provided to eligible non-profit organizations on a case-by-case basis. HOME DETENTION: Inmates live at home under electronic supervision and are allowed to work and attend authorized activities.
