- Purpose
- To implement and enforce Maryland's laws, and provide executive direction to government.
- Service
- The governor is elected by popular vote for a term of four years, and may not serve more than two consecutive terms. To be eligible for the office of governor, a person must be at least 30 years old, have been a resident for five years immediately preceding the election, and be a registered voter of the state. The eligibility requirements for lieutenant governor are the same as those for governor. The lieutenant governor is elected for a term of four years at the same election in which the governor is elected.
