Purpose | Perform science operations for the Hubble Space Telescope, and lead the science and mission operations for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). Supports other astronomy programs and conducts scientific research. |
Service | The Office of Public Outreach at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) shares cutting-edge scientific discoveries and knowledge of the universe in ways that inspire, excite, challenge, and inform the public through events at public venues, large-scale exhibits and displays, interactive websites, multimedia and video content, social media, and a range of print products. We also share our expertise and content with other organizations and groups to increase our reach. The Office also hosts a free Public Lecture Series at 8 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month in the STScI Auditorium. Established in 1981, Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) has helped guide the most famous observatory in history, the Hubble Space Telescope, since its launch in 1990. We also lead the science and mission operations for the James Webb Space Telescope. We will support wide-field science operations for the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope and are partners on several other NASA missions. Our Barbara A. Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes (MAST) curates and disseminates data from over 20 astronomical missions. |
