PurposeTo provide a community service organization consisting of men and women who volunteer their time and dedicate their actions toward greater enhancement of living within their community.
ServiceWorks to help both the economic underprivileged and victims of disaster. Assists community residents in need, loans hospital equipment, arranges eye tests and glasses, donates to our local food pantry in Silver Run, and provides financial support for various community projects and organizations through fundraising campaigns. Proceeds are donated to various Lions International Programs involving vision research, health care services, and other area organizations that lend their hands and expertise to community betterment and safety. Our two $1000 scholarships are now in memory of John Hopkins and John Leister and are for high school or vocational students in the 21158 zip code area. The deadline for next years applications is April 15, 2020. Annual fund-raisers include: basket bingo, a corn roast, and a golf tournament. Maintains a six-acre park and pavilion that seats 75. The park has a pond and a stream, and is located on Old Hanover Road. To rent the Park Pavilion, contact Lions Ron and Thelma Stonesifer at 410-346-7721; fee is $100. Meetings are 6:30 pm the second and fourth Thursday of each month at St. Mary's United Church of Christ, 1441 E. Mayberry Road, Westminster, MD 21158. The Lions Club accepts used eyeglasses, hearing aids, and medical equipment. The Lions' Motto is: We Serve.
EligibilityApplication for membership must be approved by the club's Board of Directors.
