Purpose | Gateway is a school that provides an alternative educational opportunity for students demonstrating difficulties in areas of behavioral and emotional adjustment in the traditional school setting. Our mission is to help students grow socially, personally, and intellectually while inspiring them to reach behavioral and academic success. |
Service | Follows the regular school calendar; the instructional day is from 7:35 am to 1:52 pm. Population includes: students on extended suspension, those voluntarily enrolled, those who have special educational needs, and others in transition. Middle school students study language arts, math, and reading. High school students earn credits toward graduation with emphasis placed on passing the required state tests and completing the Service Learning graduation requirement. Support services are an important factor, and one need shared by most of Gateway's students is counseling support. The school has a school psychologist, crisis counselors, a social worker, and substance abuse counseling. Students meet individually and in groups with the goal of developing positive relationships and social skills. |
