Purpose | To bring diverse communities into conversation through the traditional arts, as expressed through workshops with master musicians, artists, film makers, writers, dancers, and thinkers. To serve as a model for seeking common ground within our larger community. |
Service | Common Ground on the Hill, a Regional Maryland Folklife Center for Carroll, Howard and Frederick Counties, Offers two annual week-long traditional arts summer camps and concerts in June - July at McDaniel College, the Deer Creek Fiddlers' Convention and a one-day Roots Music and Arts Festival in July. Produces Common Ground on the Town, a free one-evening event at multiple locations throughout downtown Westminster during Traditions Weeks in July. Produces monthly community concerts via a collaboration with Carroll Arts Center in Westminster (Common Ground Downtown) from October through April each year, and free jam sessions for Bluegrass, Old-Time and Celtic Music at the Carroll Arts Center. Concerts are also offered at various times at The Church of the Redeemer in Baltimore. All summer workshops are optionally offered for credit at the graduate and undergraduate levels for an additional fee. Qualified Carroll County Public School teachers and other schools systems that are on direct billing with McDaniel College receive full tuition and credit hour reimbursement, where eligible. |
