PurposeTo control and improve environmental factors affecting the public health of citizens.
ServiceServices: Oversees: FOOD SERVICE FACILITIES - LICENSING and INSPECTIONS of restaurants, grocery stores, and other locations that prepare food; CAMP INSPECTIONS; SEWAGE - PERMITTING and INSPECTION of individual on-site sewage disposal systems; observes percolation tests; inspects vehicles of septage waste haulers; LAND DEVELOPMENT - REVIEW of subdivision and commercial site plans, and reviews master plans for water, sewer, solid waste, and recycling; EXOTIC BIRDS - PERMITTING and INSPECTIONS for psittacine birds (e.g., parrots); RABIES - investigates animal bites, and offers animal anti-rabies vaccination clinics; SWIMMING POOLS and BATHING BEACHES - PERMITTING and INSPECTIONS of Aquatic Venues; WATER QUALITY - PERMITTING and INSPECTION for individual wells, collection of water samples, monitoring noncommunity water supplies, and investigating ground water contamination; RADON control with information and interpretation of results; HAZARDOUS MATERIALS - information and referral services; SLUDGE - review applications for permits for sludge application sites and respond to complaints; . Processes information requests about all programs. Enforces various regulations and responds to complaints. Provides educational outreach on environmental health issues.
