Purpose | To provide education and support for blacksmithing in the central Maryland area. |
Service | Provides educational services and seminars to individuals or the general public interested in blacksmithing or ironware. BGCM has established a blacksmithing school which offers weekend classes in beginning blacksmithing as well as advanced techniques; classes are offered in conjunction with the Carroll County Farm Museum. The teaching facility has eight forges. The guild publishes a bi-monthly newsletter listing activities and events. Monthly meetings include demonstrations of different blacksmithing techniques from beginner to advanced. Maintains a large collection of books related to blacksmithing which may be checked out by members. Meetings are usually on a Sunday at the Blacksmith's Shop on the grounds of the Carroll County Farm Museum (depending upon the Farm Museum's scheduled events).
