PurposeSince our charter in 1919, our American Legion Post has been welcoming VETERANS from all branches of our Armed Forces. Today, we continue to welcome all military personnel serving our country. Joining our Post enables you to continue serving your God, Country and Community. Our mission is to implement the goals, aspirations, dreams, peace and blessings for our country, friends and families.
ServiceSupports the activities of the American Legion. Meetings are 8 pm the first Tuesday of each month with dinner served for members at 7 pm. Has a service officer to assist veterans with work claims with the Veterans Administration and those in need. Sponsors and coordinates the annual Memorial Day Parade in Westminster and the ceremony that follows at the Westminster Cemetery. Conducts a Flag Retirement Ceremony each year with the Elks Lodge on the Sunday nearest Flag Day in June. Also sponsors a Veterans' Day program on Nov. 11, and a public speaking contest for high school students each January. Sends underprivileged children to Camp WestMar in Thurmont for one week in the summer. Sponsors high school students for attendance at Boys/Girls State Leadership Program. Awards two $2,000 scholarships each year. One recipient is a graduating senior from Westminster High; the other is from Winters Mill High. Applications are due May 1st. Provides donations throughout the year to numerous local and state charities, which totaled over $30,000.00 last year. Sponsors the annual Halloween Parade in Westminster.
