Purpose | To assist consumers whose health insurance carriers refuse to pay for a service and to assist consumers with billing disputes with health care providers. |
Service | Helps consumers whose health plan has refused to cover a medical procedure or to pay for a medical service that has already been provided. Assists consumers in resolving billing disputes with hospitals, doctors, insurance companies and other health care providers; helps consumers negotiate refunds or repairs for medical equipment and other health care products that are defective or were never delivered. The unit also assists consumers with enrollment in a group health plan or health insurance coverage by providing information, referral, and assistance. The unit also helps consumers who have been denied enrollment in a Qualified Health Plan or denied Advanced Premium Tax Credits or Cost-Sharing Reductions by Maryland Health Connection.
