Purpose | To provide emergency prevention, triage and treatment information by telephone for all types of poisoning or overdose cases including children with accidental exposures, drug interactions, drug overdoses, bites and stings, and industrial accidents. |
Service | The Maryland Poison Center is certified by the American Association of Poison Control Centers as a Regional Poison Center. Emergency calls are managed by pharmacists and registered nurses with additional toxicology training who are certified as specialists in poison information. Referral for medical care may be made to any hospital in the area. Packets of information to increase public awareness of poison dangers are available upon request by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Maryland Poison Center. THE 800 NUMBER IS FOR EXPOSURE, QUESTIONS, AND REFERRAL NATIONWIDE. |
