Purpose | To register all births, deaths, marriages, divorces and fetal deaths for Maryland. |
Service | Provides certified copies of birth, fetal death, death, marriage and divorce verification for events occurring in Maryland. Gives information on procedures to follow for registering an adoption, legitimation or an adjudication of paternity, or for creating a birth certificate for a person born in Maryland for whom no birth certificate ever existed. Provides verification of a divorce. A recorded message outlines specific information needed; call 410-764-3038. Records available: county births from 1898 to the present; city births from 1875 to the present; deaths from 1969 to the present; marriages from January 1990 to the present, and divorces from January 1992 to the present. Records can be obtained in person at the Division of Vital Records office for $24 per certificate payable in cash, check, or money order or at local health departments with the exception of Montgomery County, Baltimore City or Baltimore County for an additional fee. Records can also be ordered through the Division of Vital Records by mail with a check or money order payable to the Division of Vital Records in the amount of $24 per certificate; enclose a self-addressed, stamped, legal size envelope or by credit card for $33.75 per certificate ($24 + $9.75 processing fee).
