Purpose | To furnish information about the provisions of the copyright law and the procedures for making registration, explain the operations and practices of the Copyright Office, and report on facts found in the public records of the office. |
Service | Detailed information about copyright law, recording a document, registration forms, and fees is available on the Copyright Office Internet site. Online registration is strongly recommended; fees are lower for this service and the registration will be processed sooner. Technical support for online registration is available on the Internet site or by calling 202-707-3002 from 8 am to 8 pm, Monday through Friday. All other questions can by answered during regular work hours at 202-707-5959. Registration application forms may be downloaded from the Internet site or obtained by filling out the email request form. Forms and publications are also available by calling 202-707-9100. Reports on copyright facts found in the records of the Copyright Office may be obtained for a fee; please check the Internet site for amount. Any member of the public, however, may use the Copyright Card Catalog in the Copyright Office free of charge. Copyright registrations from 1978 to the present can also be searched on the Internet site. The Public Information Office is located in Room LM-401 of the James Madison Memorial Building of the Library of Congress. |
